Refrigerant Management Canada as of January 2004 is accepting HCFC for disposal free of charge. RCM started to accept CFC refrigerant in January 2002 for disposal free of charge. RCM does not accept HFC refrigerants for disposal free of charge. The cost of collection and disposal is paid for by a special levy on sales of new and reclaimed HCFC and HCFC blends of refrigerants.

Production and importation of CFC in Canada eliminated in 1995 (import exceptions)



 
 

Prohibit charging vehicle air conditioning with CFC refrigerant in 2000
Prohibit charging mobile refrigeration systems with CFC in January 2003
Prohibit charging air conditioning systems with CFC January 2004 (except chillers)
Prohibit recharging chillers with CFC after January 2005 (Federal law) without replacement or conversion before next operating season.
Prohibit recharging chillers with CFC after law passed (Provincial Law) without replacement or conversion before next operating season.
Prohibit top up charge of chillers with CFC January 2010
Prohibit operation of chillers with CFC January 2015

HCFC REFRIGERANT R-123

Phase out schedule:

From 1996 to 2003 no reduction of supply
From 2004 to 2009 reduced to 65% of previous supply
From 2010 to 20014 reduced to 35% of supply at 2003
From 2015 to 2019 reduced to 10% of supply at 2003
From 2020 to 2029 reduced to 1/2 of 1 % R-123
