York conversions to R-123

York HT centrifugal chillers must have their motors rewound to be compatible with R-123. This means that the cost is extremely high to convert a York HT centrifugal chiller. It can be done but a new chiller if possible is a better option.

All York open style centrifugal chillers are fairly reasonable in cost to convert as the motor does not have to be converted. If the chiller is fairly new then the cost to convert can be in the twenty thousand dollar range, including the refrigerant. If the chiller has seen a number of operating hours then an internal inspection and bearing replacement might save downtime in the operating season. Major Air offers conversions on York chillers.
